9. Rey Mysterio vs. Kurt Angle vs. Randy Orton: WrestleMania 22

The WWE family was saddened by the unexpected passing of Eddie Guerrero in late-2005.  The loss hurt everyone involved with the WWE, but out of everyone who was affected, it especially hurt his long-time friend Rey Mysterio.

Mysterio and Guerrero were as close as brothers and losing such a good friend and well-respected member of the WWE family will always leave an impact.  But Mysterio turned that into a career breakthrough in 2006 as he won the 2006 Royal Rumble and earned the right to compete for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 22 in 2006 alongside champion Kurt Angle and Randy Orton in a Triple Threat Match.

It wasn’t the main event of the show and it didn’t steal as many headlines as it should have, but the three put on a very good match that didn’t nearly go long enough.  The action was stellar from start to finish, but the ending was particularly great to see when Mysterio pinned Orton to win the match and the World Heavyweight Championship on the grandest stage of them all.

It was an emotional moment for Mysterio, who dedicated his run to the world title to Guerrero’s memory and it was especially great to see Mysterio celebrate with Eddie’s family Vickie and Chavo on the top of the stage as he exited.  This was a great example of storytelling and shows how great it can be when everything just clicks.

Say what you want about how his title reign ended up in 2006, but Mysterio honoring Latino Heat and winning the world title at the showcase of the immortals is one of the most underrated moments and matches in WrestleMania history.
