WWE WrestleMania 34: Why The Miz Should Retain The Intercontinental Championship

The Miz is the second longest reigning Intercontinental Champion in WWE history, but will he hold the title through WrestleMania 34 by defeating Finn Bálor and Seth Rollins?

The Miz has seemingly become one with the Intercontinental Championship ever since WrestleMania 32. It seems like you can’t talk about one without mentioning the other.

Ever since recapturing the gold the night after WrestleMania 32, The Miz has either been contending for the belt or proudly hoisting it on his shoulder for the next two years. All the while he has been able to elevate the his career, the title, and whatever weekly show he is on thanks to his fiery promos, memorable matches, and obsession with getting respect as Intercontinental Champion.

Now, heading into WrestleMania 34, The Miz has to defend his Intercontinental Championship against two of Raw‘s best and popular Superstars in the form of Finn Bálor and Seth Rollins. Neither have held the Intercontinental Championship before, but both of them are looking for that to change at ‘Mania.

Well, I have a feeling that both will be without IC gold for at least a little longer because the strap is going to stay with The Miz. That doesn’t necessarily mean that The Miz is a better champion than the other two. It just means that he is a better fit for the position at this time.

That is because The Miz has a whole lot going on right now in his career. Not only is he one of WWE’s top Superstars, but he is also going to be the star of a new USA series called Miz and Mrs. that will be airing later on in 2018.

The show will follow Miz and Maryse around and will focus on the couple becoming first time parents. Well, the birth of their child, which is the focal point of the show, just so happens to be due right around WrestleMania. So, what would be a more perfect climactic episode in the series than Maryse and the newborn baby watching The Miz come out on top at WrestleMania?

So, if we’re looking for some good TV later on, then The Miz winning would be the best choice. But, there’s a couple more reasons why The Miz should win. He has represented the Intercontinental Championship for so long that he is now the second longest (combined) reigning IC Champ of all time.

If The Miz continues to hold the title, then he will be the longest reigning champ in history by April 28th. This means that WrestleMania will likely be one of the last hurdles for The Miz to overcome in order to make history, and WWE loves to make history.

This would give The Miz and WWE something to brag about for years to come as The Most Must See Superstar can hold claim (at least in his eyes) as the greatest Intercontinental Champion ever. This could then catapult The Miz into the world title scene after he has done everything possible with the Intercontinental Championship.

Meanwhile, the Intercontinental Championship will not have the same benefits for Seth or Finn as they already have plenty of paths after WrestleMania that do not involve the IC Title. Seth could move to SmackDown to try to reclaim the WWE Championship, reform The Shield when Ambrose comes back, or even feud with a heel Ambrose after ‘Mania.

Finn also has a bright future ahead of him as the leader of the Bálor Club. He could face off against The Shield, join forces or feud with AJ Styles, or even turn heel after failing at WrestleMania. So, each competitor will be well off after WrestleMania, but only The Miz will walk in and out as Intercontinental Champion.
