WWE WrestleMania 34: Why Finn Balor should win the IC Title

The first ever WWE Universal Champion could give the IC Title a much-needed boost, perhaps even to semi-main event status.

Since he returned from injury the night after WrestleMania 33, Finn Balor has mostly wasted away in WWE’s hamster wheel of a midcard. Most of that isn’t Balor’s fault; there’s only so much he can do when the company books him as cannon fodder for a 50-year-old part-timer. Feuding with the perpetually directionless Bray Wyatt didn’t do Balor any favors either. Outside of his Universal Championship win in 2016 and his outstanding match with A.J. Styles last October, Balor hasn’t created many memorable moments on the main roster. This has led to people in the company questioning how over he truly is. It’s even led to some fans pondering how good he really is as well.

For the record, I don’t think Finn Balor in overrated. I think Balor is a tremendous wrestler who hasn’t gotten much to sink his teeth into since joining the RAW roster. That could change in less than four weeks at WrestleMania 34.

The leader of Balor Club, along with Seth Rollins, will challenge The Miz in a triple threat match for the Intercontinental Championship at “The Showcase of the Immortals”. Many fans could make a reasonable argument that Miz should retain his title in New Orleans. But I think that the time is right to crown a new champion at WrestleMania, and Balor should be that man. Doing so would elevate the strap to heights that “The A-Lister” can’t quite reach.
