Should Randy Orton Retain the US Championship at WrestleMania?

After winning the United States championship at Fastlane, Randy Orton is now officially a Grand Slam winner.

This of course means that along with the US Championship, Orton has also held the Tag Team titles, Intercontinental titles, and the World Championship. And quite frankly, with the work Orton has done for the WWE, he absolutely deserves it.

But it’s not a question of whether or not he deserves the Grand Slam. The real question is how long will Orton hold the title.

As of right now, Orton looks to be carrying the title into WrestleMania. Who his opponent will be is yet to be determined. But with him feuding with both Bobby Roode and Jinder Mahal currently on SmackDown Live, they are set to be his opponents at Mania.

Because he lost the title at Fastlane, Roode is still allowed his obligatory rematch, which he may use at WrestleMania. But it wouldn’t be put past WWE to add Mahal into the match. for some odd reason.

But if these are his set opponents, should Orton keep the title after WrestleMania? The short answer is no, and here is why.

While he may be a part of the US title picture going into Mania, Mahal more than likely won’t walk out as champion. Quite frankly, ever since he dropped the WWE Championship to AJ Styles back in November, he hasn’t been much of a draw.

But now that he has been solidified as a superstar, it makes sense to put him in the match. While it’d be better to just have Orton and Roode in a one-on-one match, adding Mahal gives the match a bit more suspense.

Roode on the other hand, has more of a chance of winning, as he should. While he may have only held it temporarily, Roode looked good with the US Championship. He had a decent enough defense against Mojo Rawley at the Royal Rumble. Not only that, but if he kept the US Championship, it would allow him to continue the US Open Challenge.

It also allows for a nice WrestleMania moment for Roode. That’s the big goal for every superstar now is to have their “WrestleMania moment”. It may be his first Mania, but it would make for a nice moment indeed.

It would also allow Orton to successfully put over Roode on the Grandest Stage. With Orton as an older member of the WWE roster, it would make sense for him to start putting over more younger superstars. He did so last year against Mahal for the WWE Championship. But now, it seems right for him to do so for Roode.

With Roode being a future world champion for WWE, the best place for him to start building his momentum is at WrestleMania. But not only that, giving him a major title win at Mania will also help. It may be a while before he wins a world championship, but he has to start somewhere.

Orton may be a Grand Slam champion, but his US Title reign doesn’t look like it’ll be for much longer. Regardless of who takes the title from him, it will make for a WrestleMania moment nonetheless. Hopefully, it will be glorious.
