Long before he was Woken and even before he was Broken, Matt Hardy was Matt Hardy Version One. And he everything going for him. He could cut a promo, he had massive heat on multiple occasions, he had a the coolest entrance of the era and most importantly, he could work a damn good match. Why did Matt never get a shot at carrying the WWE Championship?

I’ve always been interested in this. The WWE and wrestling fans have always been more partial to Matt’s brother Jeff. And i get it. Jeff did crazy things and that always made him exciting to watch. But I won’t act for a second like Jeff could work a normal match like Matt. And Jeff still can’t talk on the mic despite being the business for over 20 years.

Yet Jeff got all the championships and main events. Even after he clearly was having issues with substance abuse. It should have been Matt all along. During the era when Jeff was first winning his title, the WWE should have been there to take advantage of a big WWE Championship feud that featured the brothers going head to head. Instead they waited till WrestleMania 26. Where Matt won.

It’s not too late though. Matt is still super over. Possibly more over than he’s ever been. Once Raw gets the Universal Championship back on TV full time, Matt could be a great champion during the slow fall period.
