Counting down the very best Intercontinental title matches in WrestleMania history.

The WWE Intercontinental Championship is an institution in the professional wrestling industry. Introduced in the Fall of 1979, the IC title has been the company’s most vaunted secondary title for close to 40 years now and it has been used time after time as a springboard mechanism for future world champions. Legends like Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, The Ultimate Warrior, Randy Orton, Steve Austin, The Rock, and Triple H, among numerous others, were all Intercontinental champions long before they were WWE World Heavyweight Champions.

But for as important as this championship has been to the WWE, it’s representation at the biggest event of the year has been inconsistent at best. The IC title was competed for in 17 of the first 18 WrestleManias but then only 4 times in the past 15. However, in those 21 bouts, there have been some undoubted classics.

This year the belt will be contested in what could be another one of those classics as The Miz will defend the title in a triple threat match against Finn Balor and Seth Rollins. This match will have the task of trying to emulate what has been not only a few of Mania’s best matches, but some of the very best IC title matches of all-time.

But what are the best? Ahead we count down the five best Intercontinental title matches in WrestleMania history.
