14. Sycho Sid – WrestleMania 13
After five WrestleMania’s that gave him a 5-0 record, and nearly seven years being seen as one of the most dominant superstars within the company, The Undertaker finally got his WrestleMania main event. Not only was the main event due, but his shot at a world championship without getting screwed over by a relative or a rival was even further overdue. As much popularity and fanfare as The Deadman always seemed get, he could never climb that mountain. But that all changed at the Rosemont Horizon in Rosemont, Illinois, the sight of WrestleMania 13.
Now, once again, was this one of Taker’s best in-ring matches? No. In fact, he and Sid put on a bit of a snoozer. Truthfully, it was one of the more underwhelming Mania main events of all time. And throw in the fact that Bret Hart interfered making in an unclean finish, and there was plenty left to be desired about this match. But that did not negate the fact that Taker was finally on top, a spot he deserved long before this night.
In what would be the second of his six world title runs in the company, Taker would dominate the company over the course of four and a half months as fought off the likes of Steve Austin, Mankind, Triple H, Farooq, and Vader before ultimately dropping the belt to Bret Hart at SummerSlam. But not only did this match and title win entrench the Deadman as a top star, it kept him there, as he was at or near the main event scene in the company for the next 15-plus years.
