18. Bray Wyatt – WrestleMania 31

This idea, on paper at least, had a lot of potential. “The New Face of Fear” taking on “The Deadman” had a really nice ring to it. So when after the 2015 Royal Rumble, Bray Wyatt began his quest to secure a match with The Undertaker, the potential for this match had WWE fans stirring with anticipation. Wyatt had spent the previous 18 months getting over as he battled the likes of Kane, Daniel Bryan, and CM Punk while also establishing himself as one of the more interesting characters the WWE had seen in some time. His wacky, cryptic promos and guru-like control over his Wyatt Family faction was one of the most entertaining programs in the WWE for the better part of two years. This looked to be a huge opportunity for the young star.

But there were some problems. For one, the booking was very one-sided. Wyatt spent weeks cutting promos on Taker but there really wasn’t much a response from The Deadman other than an acceptance of challenge. Because of this, the story line got boring fast and by the time the match happened, any momentum it may have had out of the gates was then non-existent. Also factor in that Taker had finally lost at Mania for the first time a year earlier to Brock Lesnar. Did anyone really believe that he’d lose two in a row?

So the match itself went down that night in Santa Clara and the foregone conclusion nature of it reared it’s ugly head. Other than Taker’s entrance, the crowd was not invested and the 15 minutes that Taker and Bray spent in the ring seemed like little consequence. Taker moved to 22-1 at Mania and Wyatt went back to the drawing board which saw him win a world title a couple of years later. This was not a terrible match or story line at all, but it is most likely The Streak’s most wasted opportunity.
