NJPW Sakura Genesis 2018: Results, Grades, and Analysis

The Golden Lovers (Kenny Omega (Bullet Club) & Kota Ibushi) vs. Bullet Club (Hangman Page & Cody)

I actually feel sorry that these guys have to follow the last match, and that’s crazy because Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi are in this one. Cody and Kenny start this match as the crowd wants to see Cody get torn apart by Kenny. Everywhere Cody is going results in him drawing major heat.

The Golden Lovers went for the Golden Trigger quickly but were unable to hit it. They also went for the Cross Slash, but Hangman and Cody were able to cut them off. The next portion of the match saw Cody and Hangman getting the heat on Ibushi. Cody and Omega brawled all over ringside before Omega managed to suplex Cody on the outside.

Cody eventually took the advantage again and put Omega on the table. Just as he was about to put him through it, The Young Bucks came out! Nick said to Cody, “Look what this has come to!” Cody offered a hand to Nick and Matt, but The Bucks just walked away! This is huge in the story they’re telling. Cody and Hangman continued to get the heat on Omega until Omega was able to hit an enziguri on Cody. Cody was busted wide open by this kick hardway. Omega made the hot tag, and Omega hit the You Can’t Escape but Cody kicked out.

The Golden Lovers then hit the Cross Slash on the outside, dropping both Hangman and Cody. The Lovers then hit a combination powerbomb into a German suplex. The Golden Lovers went for their finish, but Hangman cut them off. Kenny was sent flying to the outside. Cody and Hangman had the advantage over Ibushi here for a little bit, and a wild exchange of moves followed, culminating with Omega hitting a V-Trigger on Cody and Cody following with a powerslam.

Cody ended up caught on the top rope and Omega went for the One Winged Angel to the outside through a table. Cody managed to block it. Ibushi jumped to the top rope and went for a German suplex into the ring, but Hangman caught him. Cody and Hangman then hit a doomsday device dropkick, but Kota kicked out. Hangman sent Omega flying through the table, and Omega got busted open. Kota dodged a Cross Rhodes and hit a German Suplex. Page stopped Ibushi from hitting the Kamigoye on Cody, and Cody rolled up Ibushi and pulled the tights to cheat for the win!

Hangman Page attacked Ibushi after the bell and the beating continued with Omega down. Cody grabbed a chair and tried to end Ibushi’s career. Omega managed to grab the chair and save Ibushi. These four delivered a great match but had a hard time following Ospreay.
