4. Strowman Goes It Alone; Loses
If I feel bad for anyone going into WrestleMania weekend, it’s Braun Strowman. Consistently one of the most over guys on the roster for the past year, “The Monster Among Men” has been thrown into the RAW tag team title picture because, well, the WWE most likely didn’t know what else to do with him. At this point in time, Strowman is not a mid-card performer or even that of a secondary title contender. With the exception of Brock Lesnar, he’s defeated everyone thrown in front of him including Roman Reigns who he spent the majority of last Spring and Summer pretty much attempting to murder. So with Reigns set for a clash with Lesnar at WrestleMania, this has left Braun in limbo, thus a tag team showdown with Cesaro and Sheamus for Sunday.
Truth be told, it’s been fun speculating on who Strowman’s “mystery partner” may be. Active roster members like Elias and Curt Hawkins have been thrown out there as well some random ones too like Rey Mysterio, Neville, Big Cass, and a possibly rejuvenated Bray Wyatt after his dip into Matt Hardy’s Lake of Reincarnation. But as exciting as some of those prospects are, Wyatt especially, any type of Strowman tag team championship win, irregardless of who is partner might be, has to be seen as a disappointment.
With all that being said, 2018 should be a massive year for Braun. Given his history with Reigns, and the fact that “The Big Dog” is all but guaranteed to walk out of New Orleans as Universal Champion, expect the two to link up again very soon. And because of that, don’t expect it’ll be with Braun as one half of a tag team championship tandem. He’s defeated Cesaro and Sheamus individually in recent weeks which will give him the confidence to believe he can take them both out alone. He’ll give an inspired effort that will make him look like a best, but he’ll come up just short.
