#1 – Backlash 2000

It was the match everyone wanted all along. One month after a disastrous fatal four-way main event which featured four wrestlers and four McMahon managers, The Rock and Triple H had the WrestleMania main event that should have been. They were respectively, the biggest babyface, and the biggest heel, and the match was booked to perfection, with the Great One facing seemingly insurmountable odds. Triple H’s brother-in-law, Shane McMahon, was the referee for the match, and Shane and Stephanie McMahon were at ringside in support of the Game.

The Rock had some backup of his own, however. The sound of glass shattering echoed throughout the MCI Center in Washington DC, as Steve Austin stomped his way to ringside, brandishing a steel chair, and then proceeding to use it against all members of the McMahon-Helmsley regime. With the distractions taken care of, the Rock was able to deliver a Rock Bottom and People’s Elbow to Triple H to win the match, and his fourth WWE title. After months of seeing HHH manage to escape with his title, the ovation from the crowd that night was not just not only a loud pop, it was a cathartic release

Not only did this show feature a main event for the ages, the undercard was loaded with great matches.  Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit had a tremendous match for the IC title, and Dean Malenko and Scotty 2 Hotty traded some jaw-dropping maneuvers in their battle for the Light Heavyweight Belt.
