Turning Heel Would Give Roode A Fresh Start

The fact is that there’s no better time to turn someone or give them a bit of a change in character than after they’ve debuted on a new brand. WWE immediately turned Bobby Roode babyface on SmackDown Live, so turning him heel again on Raw wouldn’t be too difficult.

They can also do this in a craftier way than just saying to the audience, “Alright, cheer or boo for this guy now!” which is essentially what they did with Roode’s face turn on the Blue Brand. Roode can slowly garner heat by getting under Seth Rollins’s skin, and the two would have an ideal feud over the Intercontinental Championship.

Roode’s programs as the United States Championship with Mahal and Orton (and Rusev mixed in) were quite bland. The matches were uninspiring, and Roode came off more annoying and stiff than as a star on the rise. He seemed uncomfortable as a babyface, and the only truly endearing segments he had were phone promos with Charlotte Flair (who regularly upstaged Roode) during the Mixed Match Challenge.

The WWE did tease friction between Roode and Orton during the United States Championship feud, despite keeping both of them as babyfaces. They didn’t pull the trigger on a heel turn for Roode, though, and that allows him to do something more impactful as an upper mid-card heel o the Raw roster.

There’s little risk of Roode being cheered by the fans when he does turn heel. Although the fans are looking forward to the iteration of Roode’s character that appeared to great success in NXT, they’d still boo if he turns on the right person, such as Rollins (or even Finn Balor).

Either way, Roode needs something new, and now that he’s on Monday Night Raw, the time is right for him to be the egomaniac that Jinder Mahal told the SmackDown Live fans Roode truly is.
