Impact Wrestling Redemption 2018 Match Predictions
Matt Sydal (c) vs. Petey Williams for the X Division Championship
If you asked me who Impact’s best performer in 2018 has been, I would say Matt Sydal without much hesitation. I’d argue that Sydal’s work right now is the best of his career, because his whole “Josh Mathews is my spirit guide” heel schtick is absolutely brilliant. Sydal’s bizarreness is only surpassed by his breath-taking work in the ring as one of wrestling’s premier high-flyers.
It won’t be easy to steal the show from Austin Aries, Rey Fenix, and Pentagon Jr., but if anyone is capable of doing this, it’s the combination of Petey Williams and Matt Sydal. We’ve been waiting for Williams to get his hands on the X Division Championship again for years, and there’s clearly history between Sydal and Williams.
There’s also anger brewing between the two of them, largely because of Mathews’s antics. He and Sydal basically ambushed Williams in what was supposed to be a one-on-one match between Mathews and Williams. The match was a disqualification, and Williams earned a beatdown at the hands of the heel duo.
While it would be a feel-good moment for Williams to hit the Canadian Destroyer and defeat Sydal – and it would cause some interesting friction between Mathews and Sydal – I think Impact should keep the title on Sydal. He’s on another level right now, and I think there’s still more awesomeness to come from him as X Division Champion.
