The Teams:
Now, one would think that in order to create a strong tag team division, you might need at least six teams. But the fact of the matter is that NXT is only on for one hour per week and the majority of story lines are run bi-weekly. Add that to the fact that the NXT women’s division is a little bit thin right now, and out of the gates it would quite possible to open the division with just four teams.
Now, as mentioned in the previous slide, there are some women who are on the cusp of challenging Baszler for the NXT Women’s Championship so whoever that is going to be wouldn’t factor into the inaugural teams. Smart money right now is on Dakota Kai being Baszler’s first victim and as such, Kai will remain off of these teams.
Here they are:
Kairi Sane & Candice LeRae:
How’s this for some star power right out of the gates? Sane, the Mae Young Classic Winner and LeRae, the finally newly signed queen of the independent wrestling scene would be the perfect baby face pairing. A no doubt front-runner type team that would make tremendous inaugural champions, LeRae and Sane will need to something to do if Baszler is tied up with Kai for the near future.
Sane has hit a bit of a skid after winning The Classic. And although she defeated Baszler in the finals for the trophy, Baszler exacted revenge a few months later before eventually taking the strap from Ember Moon. A run for a brand new championship could breathe some life into her NXT run.
LeRae, who essentially ended her feud alongside her husband Johnny Gargano against Zelina Vega and Andrade Almas on last week’s NXT, is already cementing herself as one of the most popular female stars on the NXT roster. This team could be absolute dynamite.
Reina Gonzalez & Vanessa Borne
From star power to some under the radar talent. Reina Gonzalez and Vanessa Borne are two superstars who are primed and ready for a bigger role on NXT. And with all the upward movement in the past year, their time might be now. What better way than to get them both more involved than having them team up and take on the best of the best? They recently teamed up on an NXT house show to defeat Kai and Stefanie Newell so if the idea to pair them up wasn’t there before, it is now.
This could be a very interesting pairing. Both home grown talents who have only wrestled for the WWE, Gonzalez and Borne could make up for what ever inexperience they have with their size and athleticism. Gonzalez, at six feet tall and a former collegiate basketball player, grew up around the wrestling business as her father was an indy pro wrestler. Borne at 5’9 and 165 pounds has the looks and budding skills to be a superstar. And as both project as heels, they could be a natural team.
It might take some for them to blossom both as a team and individuals, but they could have a potentially big future.
