Shayna Baszler and Ronda Rousey

This team is a duo with a storyline that writes itself in more ways than one. Of course there’s the fact that Rousey and Baszler are both trailblazers in the world of mixed martial arts. While Rousey is recognized as one of the biggest names in the industry and the first women’s UFC champion, it is Baszler who was considered one of the pioneers of the sport, long before Rousey came around. Rousey’s MMA career started in 2011 while Baszler was competing nearly a decade earlier, starting in 2003. Plus, the WWE could play off the fact that Rousey was Baszler’s “coach” during the time that Baszler was on The Ultimate Fighter – an intriguing dynamic when it was clear that Baszler had much more experience in her back pocket.

When it comes to professional wrestling, Baszler and Rousey could be placed together immediately when Baszler is called up to the main roster. They have the background as being part of the MMA Four Horsewomen that would fit nicely into the idea of pairing them as a team. Plus, this gives WWE Creative a pathway into getting Rousey and Charlotte into the ring together. While that’s an intriguing and show stealing match for the future, imagine the eventual storyline of pitting Baszler and Rousey against one another. While they are not blood relatives, that turn and storyline could be the women’s version of Bret Hart versus Own Hart.

All of this can come with time, but placing Shayna Baszler and Ronda Rousey in a team together would be a strong start to the women’s tag team division.
