Alberto Del Rio

If you want a surprise entry, this would be the biggest surprise of them all, because it would possibly be the stupidest move imaginable. Sadly, a look at company history shows that WWE is far from immune to making stupid decisions. So El Patrón is incredibly unlikely to happen, but never say never again.

The reason Del Rio is an intriguing thought is that he won the previous largest Royal Rumble in WWE history. Back in 2011, Alberto won a 40-man battle royal to earn a championship opportunity at WrestleMania, after entering the match at #38. Del Rio is a former world champion, so he’s definitely got the resumé of a superstar.

However, you can’t talk about Del Rio without bringing up his apparent attempts at career suicide over the past several years. Alberto has left WWE on non-amicable terms twice, because the company decided to bring him back after the first time. In fact, I don’t believe Del Rio has ever left a company he was on good terms with. He’s notorious for no-showing various independent shows, and he even no-showed a WrestleMania Weekend show with Impact.

So without even getting into the personal issues that have plagued El Patrón over the past few years, he’s one of the most unprofessional athletes on the face of the earth. But WWE never really shuts the door on anyone, so while it would be a tremendous mistake and horrible idea to bring Del Rio back into the fold, it would definitely be a surprise.
