WWE Greatest Royal Rumble: 3 Possible Surprise Entrants for the Rumble Match
By Bryan Heaton
Dean Ambrose
On the more realistic side of things, but still highly unlikely, it’s possible the Lunatic Fringe could be making his WWE return in Jeddah. After suffering a triceps injury in December, it was reported that Ambrose could miss up to nine months of action. But that report came from WWE itself, and it wouldn’t be unprecedented for the company to announce an injury recovery time as longer than expected — it helps elicit a bigger reaction from the crowd when the superstar returns “early.”
Could WWE have done the same thing with Dean Ambrose? Things have been relatively quiet regarding Ambrose of late. A few rumors have suggested he’s rehabbing in Birmingham, Alabama — where he had his surgery. The former WWE Champion would be well ahead of his anticipated timetable if this were the case. And it is “only” a battle royal, after all. Music hits, head to the ring (in a very heavy brace), and quickly make an exit.
Of course, if Ambrose is still in rehab mode, coming back early for a one-off Royal Rumble match with no real consequences or prize would be exceedingly bad. He’s going to be a big part of WWE for the foreseeable future, and you don’t want to kill that on a show that a large portion of the fan base is actively against happening.
