MISCHA EAST VS JETTA

Harmony: If there’s one thing I love about ProEVE, it’s the characters.  They let women inhabit weird characters and do wrestling-based storytelling better than almost any other promotion I can think of. (SHIMMER and RISE are also great with this. WWE is incredibly hit or miss.)

I love badass funny heels, and Jetta is one of the best. Jetta comes into the ring to furious booing and orders poor Kelly to call her the “Princess Diana of British Wrestling”, which honestly does not get booed as much as I expect it to. She generates a lot of very specifically British heat which I don’t really get, but then she calls the audience a bunch of dummies, which even I can follow. Thank  goodness.

Her opponent is Mischa East, who is so new to wrestling she doesn’t show up on any of my usual websites, so I don’t know who she is. It’s obvious from the beginning this will be a squash (sorry, Mischa).

Even though it’s a squash, it’s still a hell of a lot of fun. Jetta starts the match by taking a huge swig of water, then drawing Mischa in for a handshake. She then does the mother of all spit takes right in poor Mischa’s face, knocks her over with a backbreaker, then gets her into a submission hold. Mischa taps fast and the match is over.

The announce table informs us this is the shortest match in EVE history. Jetta responds by applauding herself and doing some pushups.

I can’t confidently state exactly why ProEVE has the best female heels in the business right now. I would suspect that their willingness to let women be unlikeable and do fun character work on top of excellent wrestling is a big part of it. Whatever the magic formula is, it gave us Jetta, and thank God for that.

Joe: Jetta is SO money, and I 100% agree with Harmony’s paragraph above. ProEVE’s heels are out-of-this-world good, and they get so much heat from the live crowd. EVE also does such a smart job of booking them, as in the case of this hilariously unfair squash match and the work before and after it by Jetta, who had been absolutely killing it on commentary all night.

The reactions these heels get from the crowd make the environment of ProEVE’s shows that much more awesome, and they serve the stated purpose of making me want to see the babyfaces annihilate these despicably self-entitled heel characters.
