2: Tommaso Ciampa

Ciampa may have only wrestled in one match in April, but it was arguably the best match in the history of NXT.

Ciampa’s blood feud with Johnny Gargano has made for riveting viewing and has made him into one of the finest heels on WWE television. Ciampa’s promos have been a work of art, often saying nothing and allowing the crowd to reign down boos upon him, while his social media presence has also helped establish his heel persona.

Given his actions on this week’s episode of NXT, it looks as though Ciampa is a collision course with both Johnny Gargano and NXT champion Aleister Black for the company’s next Takeover event. This will be Ciampa’s first shot at the NXT title, and it is a position he is likely to occupy on the NXT roster for the foreseeable future.

1: Johnny Gargano

There are few wrestlers in the world right now who are on the same kind of level as Johnny Gargano. The aptly nicknamed Johnny wrestling earned his second consecutive five-star rating from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter this month for his clash with Tommaso Ciampa at NXT Takeover: New Orleans, and it was more than deserved.

The feud between the two men has been the best program on WWE television this year, and their match in New Orleans was an expertly crafted piece of story-telling which featured exceptional in-ring work and full investment from the audience.

Following his victory, and subsequent reinstatement to the NXT brand, Gargano has made it clear that he wants to challenge Aleister Black for the NXT title, and following an attack from his arch-nemesis on this week’s episode of NXT, it looks as though the two men will be meeting with Black at the brand’s next Takeover event in Chicago.

Gargano is having the best run of his career at the moment, and his feud with Tommaso Ciampa has the potential to go down as one of the company’s all-time greatest. He is delivering stellar match-up after match-up, and while I love Aleister Black as NXT champion, I’d have no issue with Gargano taking his title in the coming months. If anyone deserves it, Gargano does.
