Is Sami Calliahan On His Way to Top Heel in Wrestling?

Back during their first match, Sami Callihan and Eddie Edwards had an awesome match but Callihan wasn’t done with Edwards then.  He would attack Edwards after the match and it was not your usual attack.  Callihan would end up breaking the orbital bone of Eddie Edwards.  This had some major press as anything that is remotely real in wrestling does.

TMZ reported the story and Sami Callihan was able to give an on camera, in character interview. This was the spark that this feud needed to make it personal.  Since then, Impact Wrestling has done an awesome job building Callihan as possibly the companies top heel.  Daily DDT Editor, Joe Soriano questioned their attempt as not being the right move.  I initially disagreed and even more so now with Callihan continuing his attacks.

Callihan’s heel character now has a direction and makes it easier for him to knock it out of the park.  His promos have went from somewhat nonsensical to now a direct attack on anyone who disagrees. The mind games have even forced Eddie Edwards to strike his wife accidentally with a kendo stick back at Redemption.  As it continues to build, with Thursday’s slow open by Josh Matthews, Callihan with the help of social media could become wrestling’s top heel character.
