SmackDown Buy Or Sell: The Miz Is Now A Main Event Star in WWE

facebooktwitterreddit

Ever since the main event of WWE WrestleMania 27, The Miz has been consistently booked on the mid-card.  After countless “brass rings” and a chance at a Money in the Bank contract, is Miz officially a main eventer going forward?

When I have written about The Miz in the past, it has been met with a mixed response from readers.  Some members of the WWE Universe love how entertaining the A-Lister is, while other fans believe that he is annoying and over-hyped.

The truth remains that The Miz may actually be the most polarizing figure in WWE.  Other superstars like Roman Reigns or John Cena have received a large portion of boos, but those boos are directed at the creative staff more than the performer.

The Miz on the other hand receives a majority of his reactions from fans that either support his entertaining promos or think that he wrestles a soft style.  The point is that every reaction The Miz receives is directed at him, and is not a reaction directed at something else.

Despite the improvement that The Miz has shown over the past few years, there still are some doubters.  A main concern is if The Miz can elevate his game when the situation calls for it.

For example, the lead to WrestleMania 33 showed off his comedy skills when mimicking Cena’s part on Total Bellas, yet when the two shared a ring for promos it felt as if Cena was outclassing the A-Lister on the microphone.

If the microphone is Miz’s bread and butter, then he should be the best on it, right?  Not necessarily.  Promos should be a means to hype a match, but you still need to deliver in said match no matter how good you are on the stick.  A couple of years ago this could have been a much bigger problem, but Miz is starting to build quite the wrestling resume.

In the past few weeks alone, Miz has stolen the show with Jeff Hardy on WWE SmackDown Live and Seth Rollins at WWE Backlash 2018.  While it is true that both opponents are great superstars, at a certain point the Cleveland native deserves credit, even if it’s just for hold ing his own with them.

The Miz has been the main event of at least the mid-card for the past two years.  And it is not an accident that the show Miz is on, whether Raw or SmackDown, has felt like the “A” show.

In the past five years the WWE Universe has been promised by numerous superstars that the Intercontinental Championship will get returned to prominence like it once was.  Yet, there has only been one superstar that has delivered on that promise — The Miz.

Usually I try to find a way to present pros and cons of a buy or sell topic, but in this case there are not enough cons holding The Miz back from taking the leap this summer as a main event talent.  Because of The Miz’s improvement in the ring, ability on the microphone, and consistent platform by way of Miz TV, I am BUYING that Miz is a main event superstar from this point forward.

While anyone can make these predictions but still be at the mercy of WWE’s creative team, in this case I think it is safe to say that The Miz is set for a big 2018.  Not only is The Miz a smart choice to win the Money in the Bank contract, but a marquee match with Daniel Bryan is on the horizon as well.

With a couple of big matches in front of The Miz this year, it is difficult to see WWE not giving one of their go to guys a much needed promotion.  With the premiere of “Miz & Mrs.” set for later this year, and Miz’s work as the host of MTV’s “The Challenge: Champs vs. Stars”, it is safe to say that The Miz has a reach beyond the WWE Universe.

From a wrestling standpoint it makes sense to move Miz up the card. From a business sense, it makes even more sense because he is reaching demographics outside of wrestling fans.

If there is a 5 AM interview for a major news outlet, The Miz is there.  If there is a superstar that needs a mouthpiece for a feud, The Miz is there.  It is no longer about Miz being a utility player, it is about him being where he belongs…the main event.
