Seven Way Wildcard Ladder Match

Our prediction: Kasey or Leah Owens, Livvii Grace, or Kris Wolf (Harmony); Kasey Owens (Joe)

Results: Nina Samuels wins

Our reactions:

Harmony: Well, I feel dumb for not rooting for Nina now. As soon as she won, I realized how perfect she will be in the Wildcard role. These kinds of gimmicks work best in the hands of arrogant heels, and Nina is as arrogant as they come. I really look forward to seeing her torment the champ for the next year or so.

Ladder matches are tough to pull off, especially one with this many participants. I think this match nailed it by balancing some excellent spots with fun character work. Jetta’s insistence on trying to use a tiny ladder due to her fear of heights was great, and Kasey Owens running up that ladder to kick her twin sister in the face was even better. Nina tying Kris’s tail to the ropes (and Kris trying to gnaw herself free) was a great finishing touch. Also notable was human wrecking ball Millie McKenzie, who is clearly being set up for some big things. It was a fun match, and Nina is going to be a great Wildcard.

Also, I legitimately did not realize that Leah Owens was actually hurt in the match until Joe pointed it out. (I am pretty bad at telling works from actual injuries, but it did look nasty!) I sincerely hope she recovers quickly, and that EVE can find a role for her in the company as she heals up.

Joe: Millie McKenzie tore the roof off the place with her performance. I loved her series of suplexes, especially the ones where she absolutely nailed Nina Samuels (who tried to escape) and Jetta. Her spear is one of the best in the business, and she also hit a rather nasty cutter on Kasey Owens from off the top of the REAL ladder.

I say “real” ladder, because Jetta introduced some tiny-ass ladder, despite the fact that she cut a promo earlier in the show about how she would do some Jeff Hardy stuff to win the contract. Nope. It turns out, she’s just afraid of heights. It also turns out that she can’t use a kendo stick very well, seeing as how she managed to hit herself in the face with it. You gotta love heels!

The final moments of the match were especially nerve-wracking for me as someone rooting hard for Kasey Owens to pick up the victory. For a second, I thought she had the contract won, but Nina Samuels came from out of nowhere and ended up launching Kasey out of the ring. Samuels was nearly thwarted by Kris Wolf, but she tied Wolf’s tail to the rope before finally grabbing the briefcase. Seeing Samuels soaking up the hate from the crowd while standing on the ladder was truly a sight to behold.

Leah Owens suffered a serious knee injury during this match, and I wish her a speedy, full recovery. That was a scary moment, and it was hard to watch when it happened.
