Zayn Is The Superstar With The Most to Gain- And The Most To Lose

There is nothing to say that Zayn will automatically get a title run if he wins MITB. Odds are good, sure, but cash-ins have been blown in the past. That’s why whoever wins MITB is going to have to be interesting as a winner, or as a loser. There isn’t another wrestler in WWE that is quite as ready for this role as Sami Zayn. To understand why, check out this promo from before his heel turn at Hell in a Cell, where he asserts to Kevin that being a good person is more important to him than winning titles and that he’ll never resort to Kevin’s tactics to be succesful:

Welp.

Zayn’s current anger and desperation in the ring makes a lot more sense when you realize how much he’s actually changed, and how much he really has to lose. Zayn has gambled his entire character and his entire career on his heel turn giving him a way to advance in the WWE. He did what he did for Kevin, yes, but he also did it for himself.

He is willing to put the good guy he once was on the line in return for a chance at actually winning the big matches and being the top talent on the roster. That makes Money in the Bank especially interesting for him, because it offers him an real short-cut to the front of the line, and allows him to make his own opportunity for a title shot. If he wins, he proves that he was right about everything standing in between himself and success. If he loses, he has nobody to blame but himself.

This opens up some great storyline possibilities for Raw. If Zayn wins a title with a Money in the Bank cash-in, that will validate the entire premise of Zayn’s decision to follow through on his heel turn. He will have proven to himself and to everyone else that being a bad guy is the way to get ahead in WWE.

That would set him up as an arrogant unstoppable champ, and give the rest of the roster the challenge of knocking him down. And if he cashes in his briefcase and still loses, well, that would probably be the final nail in the coffin that would give us an irredeemable berzerker Sami. He’d go from Martin Prince to Hank Scorpio, and Raw would  have to deal with the scrappy maniac in the aftermath. It would make for unpredictable, interesting storylines on a show that badly needs a shake up in the plot department.

Also, just imagine how exponentially more obnoxious Zayn would be with a MITB briefcase. It would be amazing.
