Cedric Alexander Vs Buddy Murphy for the Cruiserweight Championship

Result: Cedric Alexander Wins with the lumbar check

Grade: A

Before we get into the match, the show deserves some credit for managing to build a big fight feel for this bout. The packages of Murphy sprinkled throughout the night were super effective, and Drake Maverick did a good job of hyping the match in a quick promo before it began. The title actually felt important here, and that’s something the main roster could learn from.

As for the match itself- wow. These two men put on one of, if not the best match in 205 Live history. Seriously, I enjoyed it that much. The match was superbly structured and the crowd were red hot through-out.

The near falls were used sparingly and effectively, the commentators did a superb job of selling the finishing moves of each man, and the ending played out perfectly. This match dragged me in and got me invested, which is what a great match should do.

Alexander’s work this year has been excellent, and Buddy Murphy has had several excellent matches since coming up from NXT, more than proving that he can cut it in the Cruiserweight division.

Alexander picking up the clean victory does mean that a rematch seems unlikely, which is unfortunate because I’d love to see these two guys get a shot at proving what they can do to a bigger audience. This was easily the best match on WWE television this month.
