6: Lars Sullivan (April: #9)

Big Bad Lars has risen up the card in May and is now the number 1 contender for Aleister Black’s NXT Championship.

Sullivan made his presence felt on the May 16th episode of the show, interrupting a match between Ricochet and Velveteen Dream and leaving both men laying in the middle of the ring. The following week he took part in an excellent handicap match against the two men and came out victorious when Velveteen Dream turned on his partner.

The following week, he made his intentions clear by laying out Aleister Black in the middle of the ring and confirming his place as the next challenger for the NXT title. Sullivan has proven over the last month or so that he is much more than just a big guy, and despite the fact he will likely lose in Chicago, he has shown that he has what it takes to compete at the top of the card.

5: Velveteen Dream (New Entrant)

Velveteen Dream has had quite the month for NXT in May. Not only was the 22-year-old endorsed by John Cena as a future star of the industry, but he also been involved in one of the brand’s most exciting feuds.

After taking jabs at high flyers and indie stars on Twitter over the last few months, Dream has entered into a program with the high-flying Ricochet, and the two men will meet in a match at NXT Takeover: Chicago.

He also took part in one of the brand’s best matches this month, when he partnered with Ricochet against Lars Sullivan in a handicap match. While Dream is likely to lose to Ricochet in Chicago, he will still come out looking great, with the two men potentially stealing the show.
