Opening Act No More (Even Though He’s, Uh, Opening the Show)

We’ve reached the point with Elias where he is officially one of the three most interesting and intriguing characters on WWE Raw. He may not be a main eventer in the truest sense yet, but he’s elevated to pretty much the tippy top of the upper mid-card. Given the history of these kinds of characters in WWE’s past, it may not last too long, but hopefully Elias stays there for a while.

If we consider Seth Rollins to be the ultimate babyface of Raw, he’s basically a modern day Hulk Hogan. And that means the role Elias is playing is akin to Earthquake, or Mr. Perfect. Neither of those two tremendously talented superstars ever really hit the main event outside of their feud with Hogan. Again, I hope that’s not necessarily the case with Elias, because he’s really coming into his own.

As much as I love Seth Rollins, the standoff with guitar vs. steel chair was pretty stupid. Visually, I get what the intent was, but in practice it just looked dumb. Of course, it’s all just a way to get Jinder Mahal in the ring, which is just a way to get Roman Reigns in the ring.

For his second consecutive appearance, Reigns was cheered. Woo hoo, progress! Sure, there’s still some boos in there, but if you watch the majority of the audience, they’re pro-Roman (pRoman?) and show it. I really wouldn’t be surprised if there were piped in boos just to get the fans cheering him to up the volume.

Anyway, there’s four guys in the ring fighting, so Kurt Angle is possessed by the ghost of Teddy Long and books a tag team match, playa!
