Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns vs. Elias & Jinder Mahal (w/ Sunil Singh)

Result: Elias & Jinder Mahal defeated Seth Rollins & Roman Reigns via pinfall

Rating: 4.0 out of 5 stars

With Coach “on assignment” again, David Otunga fills in on commentary. His entire job? Apparently talking up Roman Reigns. There’s a lot of chatter about Reigns being the “uncrowned” Universal Champion (boy, is it going to be awkward when Seth Rollins beats Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam).

Lots of good stuff in this one. Rollins still feeling the effects not only of the beatdown tonight, but the vicious guitar shot off the announce desk last week was prominent throughout. The Drive-By spot just before the commercial break was also pretty great. How many times has Reigns taken out an opponent with that move? It would make sense that Jinder, Singh, and Elias would all be ready for it. And their counter was excellent. As good as Seth Rollins has been in recent weeks, Elias was really the star of this one early on.

The role reversal in this match was also intriguing. Given a babyface team of Rollins and Reigns, one would assume Rollins would be in peril and Reigns would be the powerhouse coming in on the hot tag. Instead, Reigns — the “uncrowned” Universal Champion — was in danger for much of the match, with Rollins — the injured partner — making the save later on. Hmm.

That said, holy cow that finish. Rollins looked like he broke his damn neck on the suicide dive, but got back up in time to eat a DDT onto a steel chair. Gah, why? It’s a great visual, and it adds drama to the Intercontinental Championship match at Money in the Bank. But, jeez, protect your neck, man.

“[BLANK] has pinned the [insert title here] champion” finish aside, this was a really good match. What a surprise, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns putting on a great match, I don’t believe it.
