Nia Jax vs. Natalya
Result: Nia Jax defeated Natalya via pinfall
Rating: 2.0 out of 5 stars
For the second straight week, Ronda Rousey joins the commentary team for Nia Jax’s match. Of course, Rousey is also Natalya’s friend, so there’s even more of a reason for her to be ringside. Last week, her headset didn’t work super great; this week, it probably would have been better for everyone if the headset didn’t work.
Ronda is still not great on the mic, which is fine. And she’s only going to get better by going out there and talking, which is also fine. But, boy oh boy, the whole “ripe for the picking” sexual innuendo thing was uncomfortable — and then they repeated it.
The match wasn’t much of anything. Nia used her power advantage to take down a superstar who usually has the power advantage in her matches. Natalya scrambled to come up with something effective, but was mostly unsuccessful. And just when she started to get something going, it was time for an injury angle. Really?
Of course, the whole match is just an excuse to get Nia and Ronda in the ring together, and again do basically nothing. I hate these kinds of matches, because no one ever bothers to do anything with them. All creative energy is spent on the post-match bit, but why not try to make a good match first?
But intense stare downs are the flavor of the day, so we get a couple between Rousey and a concerned-for-Nattie Nia. Looking forward to doing this all again next week!
