This was, by far, the best match I have ever seen. I know I might get some hate for the rating being over 5 stars, but I think this match warranted it. Omega and Okada went to war, with brilliant storytelling, great call backs to previous matches (Omega hitting the One Winged Angel near the ropes), and with Okada hitting a Rainmaker but collapsing afterwards like Omega collapsed and ducked one doing so in a previous match. There were a lot more call backs to previous matches.

After the match, The Young Bucks came out and hugged Omega, which was a beautiful sight. Cody walked down, stared at Omega to chorus of boos, and turned around and left disgusted. Omega cut a promo about taking NJPW to a new level internationally. He complimented Okada, saying he was the best wrestler in the world, but that it was Kenny’s time. Kenny told the fans that he isn’t leaving Japan anytime soon, and gave the fans the assurance that he is committed to taking NJPW international.

In the backstage promo afterwards, Omega said that he was reunited with his friends. Ibushi, The Young Bucks, and Kenny Omega are the Golden Elite. Omega thought he lost his friends (first Ibushi, and then The Young Bucks), only to learn that their love was always with him and carried him to a new level. Omega also said that he thinks him and Okada are far from done. What a great promo to finish the show.

Final Thoughts

Show Rating 5 stars out of 5

This was one of the best wrestling shows I’ve watched in years. Every match was perfectly paced to build from the previous one to the next. Everything was just a teaser getting the crowd gradually more and more excited until the main event, which was the best match I have ever watched in being a fan for over 25 years. Omega and Okada are the two greatest wrestlers in the world today, and nothing can convince me otherwise. Okada’s reign comes to an end, and has to go down as one of the greatest title runs in the history of wrestling. Okada’s big single matches are considered a disappointment if they aren’t 5 stars, which is absolutely insane. I’ve never seen a wrestler as good as him at producing quality matches and working different styles.

This was my show of the year thus far, featuring my match of the year. I might have to make a list of my 10 most recommended matches soon, as there have been so many great ones in WWE, NJPW, and elsewhere. 2018 has proven to be an incredible year so far, and we’re only halfway through! Coming up soon for NJPW will be the announcements of the participants of the G1 Climax as we head to the biggest tournament of the year. But first, Kizuna Road and the G1 Special.
