The New Day vs. The Miz, Rusev, & Samoa Joe
My 4th best segment of the week comes from the main event of this week’s SmackDown Live. This match had me interested going in with the story line of the New Day still having to pick which member of their team will compete in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match, going up against the three heels from SmackDown who will all be in the ladder match.
This was enhanced by earlier segments in the night where Joe would cut his typical intense promo, and a very funny bit with New Day and Miz backstage. New Day insisted they would let Miz pick which member would compete at Money in the Bank by picking a name out of a hat. After Miz was blindfolded, they switched the hat to one with pancake batter in it so that Miz stuck his hand in it. I’m not normally into New Day’s whole pancake gimmick, but I’ll give this one to them, it was quite funny.
This all would lead to the main event match, which for me was probably the 2nd best match on WWE TV this week. Any time we get New Day in a 6 man tag match, I feel it is always very entertaining. This match felt like it could have probably went longer and I would have been cool with it, which is one thing that a good match or segment should do; leave you wanting more. It felt very chaotic, in a good sort of way, in that something was always happening, everyone was all over the place, we had some dives, Big E’s signature spear through the ropes to the floor, which still scares me every time he does it.
The match came to its conclusion when Miz instructed Joe and Rusev to hold up Big E, as Miz went to grab New Day’s pancakes. He intended to throw them at Big E, who fought off Joe and Rusev while Kofi distracted Miz, which made Miz accidentally throw the pancakes at Joe and Rusev. Joe and Rusev took exception to this, beat up the Miz a bit, then both walked out, leading to a New Day win.
