AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura Contract Signing

I really, really liked this for one simple reason; it was something different. How many contract signings have we seen in WWE in the last several years? It’s such a tired concept. Wrestlers sign contract in ring, wrestlers trash talk each other, one wrestler puts the other through the table. This segment took that tired concept, and turned it into something more unique.

More from WWE

The contract signing took place in a pre-tape, backstage with Nakamura sitting across from Styles with Paige in the middle, and one agent on each side of AJ and Nakamura. Styles signed the contract first, and pushed it over to Shinsuke. Nakamura, playing his mind games, said his pen was out of ink. He tossed his pen behind him, then asked AJ if he could borrow his pen. After AJ begrudgingly obliged, Shinsuke took took a look at the pen, and said “this pen is broken” and threw it to the floor.

AJ was furious with this, and got out of his seat and slapped Nakamura in the face. AJ was escorted away by the agents, then Nakamura pulled out a pen from his suit pocket, signed the contract and simply said “Last Man Standing.” This segment really illustrated both characters very well, AJ being the hothead, prideful baby face, while Shinsuke being the heel, looking to get inside AJ’s head to make him make a mistake, which I’m sure that story will be told during their last man standing match at Money in the Bank.
