Ronda Taps out the Champ
In the build up to the Nia Jax vs. Ronda Rousey match this Sunday, I’ve largely been bored and confused with what they’re trying to do. It started with Nia, the champion, challenging Rousey to this match for the title. Then after that, we had Nia turn heel on a dime coming off what was supposed to be a very feel good story line for her overcoming Alexa Bliss. With all of that going into this weeks go home angle, I wasn’t expecting this to be good. In fact, I was ready to jot it down to be in my five worst segments of the week. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised.
Jonathan Coachman moderated this segment, and asked Nia how she felt about what started as a friendly rivalry escalating to what it is now. Nia said that she wasn’t and admitted that she was intentionally pushing Ronda to see how she would react. Jax says Rousey isn’t ready to be champion, and says that on Sunday she will take her reputation.
Ronda responded with what was to me easily her best promo since coming to the WWE. She went over how she’s been doubted her whole life and has always proven everyone wrong. This ended with a good back and forth from the two, with Ronda trying to lock in her arm bar, but Jax countering with a headbutt. Ronda would eventually manage to get Nia into the armbar, and after struggling for a bit to lift Ronda up, Nia would tap out.
