Braun Strowman’s Legacy Will Not Be Defined By Major Championships

Over the past year Braun Strowman has experienced a meteoric rise in the eyes of the WWE Universe and the question is being asked, when will The Monster Among Men win his first major championship (WWE or Universal Championship)?  Yet again, Strowman does possess certain traits that make it possible for him to have a successful career without a laundry list of title reigns with major championships.

This past Monday on WWE Raw, once again the odds were stacked against Strowman, and once again he prevailed.  A fatal four-way quickly turned into a three on one handicap match, and just when it seemed like Strowman was out, he was back on his feet creating havoc around the ring.

Come to think of it, that is what Strowman does best.  Strowman has been in a car accident involving an ambulance, crushed by a garbage truck, and has been double and triple teamed at every turn.

Yet, every time Strowman finds a way back to his feet and keeps moving forward.  This same trait has built the legacy of Kane and to an even greater extent, The Undertaker.

Both Kane and The Undertaker have had a plethora of memorable moments, but major championships are not what sit at the top of their respective highlight reels.  The Brothers of Destruction’s inability to rest in peace following moments which in real life would be certain death has created a mythical aura around both superstars, and while there is plenty of work to be done, Strowman is on a somewhat similar path.

Specialty matches are a way to enhance a gimmick of a superstar without the involvement of a championship.  While Strowman will not be specializing in Casket or Buried Alive matches any time soon, a Last Man Standing match might become more of his calling card.  It is the perfect match to highlight Strowman’s strength, while also showing his resilience.

The WWE Universe has seen the cliche way that big men have lost Last Man Standing matches in the past where heavy objects pin that superstar down, but imagine the shock when Strowman powers through those objects and gets back to his feet.  That same power is special, Strowman’s strength is second to none in WWE currently.

As a former strongman, Strowman’s physical feats can be found all over YouTube.  Strowman is capable of being the lasting memory of any show that he is booked for without being in a major championship match.

This previously mentioned strength and dominance is a big reason why it is unlikely to see a high number of Universal Championship or WWE Championship title reigns.  The honest reason is booking Strowman as a strong, relentless big man, but at the same time having him lose the championship and then lose again in an eventual rematch seems unrealistic.

Then booking Strowman to repeat that process throughout his career is an even taller task.  This is why despite the number of years that The Undertaker has been around he does not have the number of major title reigns compared to Edge, John Cena, or Randy Orton.

It is simply to protect not only the superstar, but the overall legitimacy of the product.  Yes, Brock Lesnar is the current WWE Universal Champion, but that proves the point that keeping Strowman separate from major championships is beneficial to the overall product.

Of Lesnar’s major championship reigns, The Beast has had three of the most dominant reigns as far as physical dominance in WWE history.  Yet, in this most recent title reign fans have grown tired of Lesnar, and the physical dominance has grown stale.

Strowman is currently one of the most celebrated babyfaces on Raw, and it would be a shame to give him a similar reign at any point in his career like the one that Lesnar currently has.  The WWE Universe eventually grows tired of even the most over of babyfaces, and that is understandable.

Strowman has the ability to be funny and intimidating in the same promo, and he also has the ability to be loved or hated.  Strowman possesses surprising athleticism that a superstar with his level of strength should not have.

The skill set that Strowman has is what makes The Monster Among Men a truly polarizing figure in WWE.  Because Strowman is so valuable on his own, why hurt the legitimacy of everyone involved by playing hot potato with major championships throughout his career?
