WWE Super Show-Down: Triple H to Face The Undertaker at Massive Show in Australia
By Bryan Heaton
Australia, get ready for a huge WWE show this fall. Super Show-Down is set for October 6 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, with Triple H facing The Undertaker for the final time.
For those of you who are like me, you probably try to sleep in on the weekend. Maybe you roll out of bed, check your phone for anything earth-shattering, then make your morning coffee and try to relax a bit. If that’s the case, you may have seen a little tidbit about an upcoming WWE show. I mean, it’s only set to be the biggest show the promotion has ever put together in Australia.
The Sunday Herald Sun first broke the news that the superstars of Raw and SmackDown Live are heading to Melbourne on Saturday, October 6, 2018, for Super Show-Down. Vince McMahon himself announced the event, taking place at the legendary Melbourne Cricket Ground. MCG has a capacity of over 100,000 fans, so you know WWE will pull out all the stops to make this an unforgettable show.
Case in point: Talent already announced for the event includes John Cena and Ronda Rousey. If that’s not a sign that the company is swinging for the fences with this one, I don’t know what is. Additionally, McMahon is promising the largest collection of WWE Superstars and Legends to ever appear in Australia. Shawn Michaels, Big Show, and Kurt Angle have also been announced for the show.
But perhaps the biggest selling point is the single match advertised at present. Triple H and The Undertaker were not only both announced for the event, but they will compete against one another. As an added wrinkle, it’s being hyped as their final encounter. Yes, I know they Ended an Era™ back at WrestleMania 28. But to everyone’s credit, it’s been over six years and they haven’t walked back on that — until now. So maybe this truly will be the last time to ever see Triple H vs. The Undertaker.

After the social backlash and criticism from the Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia this spring, McMahon and company are less likely to face any kind of scrutiny from Super Show-Down. With Rousey already confirmed for the show, and Charlotte Flair featured in the announcement video, there’s no controversy of taking a payday at the expense of some of the most talented members of the roster.
Super Show-Down is the first live broadcast WWE show to take place in Australia, as the event will stream live on the WWE Network for those of us who can’t get to Melbourne. It’s also the company’s first large-scale production since Global Warning in 2002, an tape delayed pay per view event that was also released on DVD some time after the show. WWE has a regular presence in Australia with live events, but nothing of this magnitude.
