The WWE 24 On The Hardy Boyz Is Well Worth Your Time
Matt and Jeff Hardy had a long road back to the WWE when they made their epic return at WrestleMania 33, and WWE 24 does an excellent job of documenting all the ups and downs that have taken place in their lives.
As of right now, both Matt and Jeff Hardy hold titles in WWE. Jeff won the United States Championship off of Jinder Mahal on the Raw after WrestleMania before joining SmackDown Live, whereas “WOKEN” Matt is one half of the Raw Tag Team Champions with Bray Wyatt. Both men are enjoying a great deal of success in WWE this year, but there was a time a few years ago when it seemed like they’d never be back on top of the ladder.
The WWE 24 documentaries usually offer a great deal of insight into a wrestler’s life and career. Goldberg’s WWE 24 is an example of this, with many wrestling fans seeing a side of Goldberg they didn’t know existed as a result of the documentary on him. The “Empowered” WWE 24 about women’s wrestling in WWE also received plenty of acclaim.
However, WWE’s most recent effort, “The Hardys: WOKEN”, might be their best yet. They did a great job of detailing Jeff’s and Matt’s struggles with addiction, and they didn’t hold a lot back either. WWE even included footage of the infamous Jeff Hardy vs. Sting match at Victory Road 2011, which included comments about the incident from Eric Bischoff, AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, and Sting and Jeff themselves. It was a “Holy S**t” moment that took your breath away.
Aside from this surprising and monumental usage of TNA, WWE used plenty of footage of Matt and Jeff at their worst. It was remarkable how revealing the footage was. WWE didn’t gloss over Jeff’s recent DWI arrest either, nor did they neglect to show Jeff’s reflection of the incident and Matt’s disappointment at what happened.
The WWE 24 made sure to depict the positives, including Reby Hardy’s effect on Matt and her heart-warming, moving commitment to helping him. There was footage of Matt “wrestling” his son Maxel, which was just as emotional but in a completely different way. And, of course, there was behind-the-scenes footage of their surprise return at WrestleMania 33, which ranks among the greatest moments in WWE history.
Next: Money in the Bank Highlights And Grades
I’d highly recommend watching this documentary, which is available on the WWE Network after it originally aired following Money in the Bank on Sunday night. The episode itself is about an hour long, but it’s absolutely worth your time. (It was worth staying up for after Money in the Bank.)
This was the 17th edition of WWE 24, and it was honestly the best one yet. I can’t wait to see what the 18th episode will be, and I can only hope that it will be as honest and revealing as “The Hardys: WOKEN” was. Because it’s honestly scary how close the Hardys were to becoming a “statistic” of pro wrestlers being left broken by the sport.
