Tommaso Ciampa Is Setting His Eyes On Aleister Black
Last Saturday at WWE NXT TakeOver: Chicago II, Tommaso Ciampa finally defeated Johnny Gargano in their feud, hitting Johnny Wrestling with a savage DDT on the exposed ring surface. Following his big win, Ciampa has his eyes set on Aleister Black and the NXT Championship.
As always, WWE NXT delivered with their most recent TakeOver special, and Tommaso Ciampa had one of the most jarring victories in the main event of Saturday’s show. After it seemed like Johnny Gargano had the match dead to rights with Ciampa handcuffed and emaciated, Ciampa ripped a victory from the jaws of defeat with a DDT that he set up earlier in the match when he ripped off the ring’s canvas.
We knew Ciampa would get his win back at NXT TakeOver: Chicago II, but Gargano’s loss was still absolutely gut-wrenching nonetheless.
Ciampa has always been one to gloat and talk trash on Twitter, and after defeating Gargano in Chicago – the place where it all began – he’s turned his attention to the NXT Champion Aleister Black.
In many ways, Black is the antithesis of Ciampa. Whereas Ciampa chooses a life of evil and chooses to inflict maximal pain in order to try and justify the pain in his life, Black is more reserved and stoic. Although he is perfectly willing to inflict damage on his opponents and lies somewhere in between the continuum spanning good and evil, Black is far more stoic. Instead of using angry and hatred, Black uses darkness, sorrow, and tranquility to calmly outlast and pick apart his opponents with his quickness, athleticism, strikes, and savvy.
Black is a scary opponent for someone like Ciampa, because all of Ciampa’s mindgames and brutality might not work on a guy like Black, who has already defeated two very different opponents in Lars Sullivan and Andrade “Cien” Almas in NXT Championship matches.
On the one hand, it’s almost impossible to envision Black losing the title any time soon, especially after he defeated Sullivan at TakeOver: Chicago. But on the other hand, wouldn’t Ciampa vs. Gargano be a hell of an NXT Championship battle in their third meeting this year? And shouldn’t WWE capitalize on arguably the best heel in wrestling right now?

Although EC3 could be a possible opponent for Black at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV during SummerSlam weekend, Ciampa vs. Black seems more likely now that the “Blackheart” has teased it on Twitter. If that’s the case and Ciampa wins, then could you imagine the TakeOver special on Survivor Series weekend?
