Ronda Rousey: Transcendent Superstar Anywhere

In the short time Ronda Rousey has been in the WWE, she has been evaluated under an enormous microscope. The Rowdy one is proving that for her, pressure makes diamonds.

Effective booking in professional wrestling is an intricate thing. There is no “one size fits all” approach for sports entertainment. A common misconception is that anyone can be a star as long as they are booked to win. No World Wrestling Entertainment is not the Ultimate Fighting Championship nevertheless their goals are the same. Most of all, the goal is to sell matches while putting butts in the seats. There may be no better draw as the face of women’s wrestling  than ‘Rowdy’ Ronda Rousey.

Since everything is scrutinized in the social media era, fans bash before development. The main criticism against Ronda Rousey has been her promo skills have been weak. Rousey has not delivered a lengthy promo or proven to be Shakespeare verbally.

The bigger picture is that she does not NEED to do that to prove her worth. The future hall of famer (UFC) has shown great selling and conveys great emotion with facial expressions. Two unteachable things that helps with connecting with the audience. Therefore any prior knock on Ronda Rousey verbally is irrelevant.

First of all, look at the impact Ronda Rousey has had on the WWE even in her short time in the business. Her Wrestlemainia 34  debut against Triple H and Stephanie McMahon was a huge success. Also, keep in mind the attention Ronda Rousey gets from ESPN. According to WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross in an interview with TMZSports, Ronda Rousey delivered on the big stage tremendously. Ross stated Ronda Rousey’s debut was “the most impressive thing” he has seen in WWE.  Jim Ross has an undeniable eye for talent.

Most noteworthy, the former Olympian’s mere presence played a key role into FOX signing a deal to air Smackdown Live in 2019. Per senior writer of givemesport Raza Kazi, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that “Ronda Rousey being  a WWE superstar is a big reason why FOX signed a $1 billion with WWE to air Smackdown Live.” Additionally, the WWE brand as a whole feels more legitimate with Rousey than without her.

Finally, Monday Night Raw is WWE’s flagship show. The current top babyfaces excluding Braun Strowman are Finn Balor, Bobby Lashley, Roman Reigns, and Bobby Roode. However, Ronda Rousey has been shining brighter than them all.
