The Velveteen Dream Just Owned Hulk Hogan On Twitter
At WWE NXT TakeOver: Chicago II, the Velveteen Dream dressed up as Hulk Hogan, sending the crowd into a frenzy with his awe-inspiring charisma. He followed that up by sending social into a frenzy with his awe-inspiring Twitter game, owning the Hulkster.
The Velveteen Dream is one of WWE’s most promising stars, and the future NXT Champion put on an instant classic with Ricochet at NXT TakeOver: Chicago II. Dream and Ricochet paid homage to The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan in the opening exchanges of the match, as Rock vs. Hogan is widely seen as one of the greatest spectacles in wrestling history. The action later in the match showcased both performers’ athletic abilities, since much of the story rested on Dream wanting to prove that he’s as dazzling in the ring as Ricochet is.
There’s a reason why John Cena pinpointed Dream as someone who could potentially be WWE’s next big star. He has all the tools in the ring and all the tools outside of it.
Hogan tried to put over Dream on Twitter, joking that if he became the NXT star’s manager, Dream would hold all the gold “HollyWood Style”. While Dream appreciated the gesture, he made it clear that he walks alone (no wait, that’s Batista).
“Good Try Terry”! Not only is that parting shot hilarious, but it sounds like a gimmick that I’m surprised WCW never tried on a down-on-their-luck babyface.
Hogan has been trying to get into WWE’s good graces lately, but his apologies for his racism have rung hollow in the eyes of many. Mark Henry himself stated that Hogan would have to apologize to all black talent in the locker room in order to be welcomed back to the company. He added that Hogan would need to own the issue by doing community service work.
The Dream’s parody of Hogan at NXT TakeOver: Chicago II was awesome to watch and a reminder that everything Dream touches is entertaining as hell. He puts his own stamp on everything, and the fans have absolutely fallen head over heels for his work.

But remember. The Dream rides solo, no matter how tempting the offer may seem. His feuds with Ricochet and Aleister Black have drawn widespread acclaim, and even his brief match against Kassius Ohno was fun due to Dream’s creativity. I can’t wait to see what’s next for him as we head into NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn IV.
