Shinsuke Nakamura
We of course had AJ Styles listed earlier here for this match, but I don’t think this match is anywhere near as good as it was without the performance of Shinsuke Nakamura. Since turning heel, Nakamura has really found himself a performer, and it showed in this match. Nakamura’s facials throughout this match were very good, whether it be when he was on the offensive or selling. As I said with AJ as well, the strike exchanges between these two were very snug, and it was very enjoyable to watch.
What took this match to the next level for me was how it finished. Nakamura hitting a low blow on AJ, followed by a kinshasa, but AJ managing to get up at 9. That would lead to AJ hitting Nakamura with a Styles Clash off of the ring steps and onto the floor. Nakamura managed to pull himself up from this, leaning against the table. Shinsuke, perfect timing, did his “Come on!” taunt. AJ responded to this by hitting Nakamura with a low blow that looked like he was trying to kick a 50 yard field goal.
After that, AJ hit the Phenomenal Forearm through the announcer’s table for the win. The moment of this match though was Nakamura getting up, and doing the “Come on” taunt. The way I saw it, at that point, Nakamura knew he’d lost. The match was over, but Nakamura decided he wanted to spit in AJ’s face one more time. Great stuff.
