FATAL FOUR-WAY: NINA SAMUELS VS XIA BROOKSIDE VS LAURA DIMATTEO VS LEAH OWENS

HARMONY: I know we should be talking about the matches, but can I take a moment to talk about the entrances? I absolutely love the character work in Pro Wrestling EVE, and a lot of that comes down to the personality the wrestlers bring into the ring.

Nina Samuels starting us off by cutting a cruel promo on the entire EVE roster and saying that she wants to win the Wildcard so she can crush Charlie Morgan’s dreams seems eerily psychic now, but at the time it was the kind of big boast that makes Samuels the kind of heel you love to hate.

And Owens’s entrance in the Macho Man jacket to Take On Me? I mean, come on. Leah Owens is just adorable and super fun, and I loved it when she danced to the crowd chanting “Anyone but Nina” too. I love heels, but I also love it when a wrestler is just a heck of a lot of fun. When is Leah Owens going to get into the ring with Delilah Doom? I’d really like to see that.

Speaking of Nina Samuels, she is a beast. She spent most of this match firmly in control, just picking up the other wrestlers and flipping them through the air like practice dummies. The four-way quickly turned into two matches: DiMatteo VS Brookside and Samuels VS Owens. Owens and Samuels have previous beef so it made sense for them to focus on each other, and DiMatteo and Brookside just match up very well. Brookside is always a fun wrestler to watch.

She has a great flying dropkick and she’s incredibly fast. DiMatteo is also very impressive. Samuels and Owens were my favorite pair-up though. Samuels is just so good in the ring, and Owens’s cheery taunting is a great foil for Samuels’s smarmy overconfidence. The best moment of the match is when Owens dives off of a ladder and into the crowd, taking out Samuels and most of the first row. I don’t want to discount the other wrestlers involved as they are great, but Samuels and Owens were the absolute highlights for me and I look forward to seeing more of their feud.
