SAMMI JAYNE “PICK YOUR POISON” MATCH
HARMONY: So now it’s Sammi Jayne’s turn to face an opponent chosen by Charlie Morgan. We know Morgan isn’t going to cheat like Jayne, but surely she has something up her sleeve to mess with Jayne, right?
When Morgan enters the ring, she’s completely undaunted by Jayne. She stares her down, then congratulates her on the surprise gauntlet match. Then she reminds Jayne that she won’t be able to cheat or call in surprise opponents at WrestleQueendom- that match will be one on one, and the belt will be on the line.
Morgan is incredibly intense when she wants to be, and she sounded and looked so quietly furious it honestly gave me goosebumps. I was also delighted when Morgan announced Jaynes opponent- Erin Angel, Jetta’s protege who hates Jayne. A good way to splinter the alliances between the heels.
This was the first time I’d seen Angel in singles competition, and she was pretty great! She danced around Jayne like a slinky, countering her holds and landing some good offense of her own. Angel’s hurricarana is amazing. The sequence where they rolled each other back and forth looking for a pin was lots of fun too.
However, Jayne is the champ for a reason, and it didn’t take long for her to come out on top. Jayne’s predatory grin is absolutely creepy as she dismantles Angel with a series of suplexes, flips, and nasty joint manipulation moves. At one point she even bounces Angel’s feet off the wall to add momentum to a suplex. Jayne finally wins by countering a top-rope dive from Angel into a hold and pin, which was a pretty slick sequence.
While Jayne came out on top, Morgan’s psychological gambit worked out. Jayne couldn’t resist continuing to attack Angel after the bell, angering and upsetting Jetta. It’s the first time I’ve questioned Jetta and Jayne’s alliance, and I’m very curious to see if that friendship will last after Jayne’s lost the belt. Charlie rushes the ring to attack Jayne a number of times, eventually spearing her right into the front row of the crowd. She then jumped up on the apron and screamed as Jayne was ushered away.
Next: Is The Evolution Of Elias Coming?
It was an excellent ending to the show, and a great way to get the crowd hyped up for the championship match at WrestleQueendom. I am a little worried about Morgan hanging onto that belt due to her potential contract with WWE, but even if she has to vacate it sooner rather than later, Pro Wrestling EVE should be proud of the way they built up and paid off her arc. Also, Charlie Morgan is incredible and deserves every good thing that comes her way.
