Report: Nia Jax Has Heat For Tweet About Alexa Bliss’s Tattoo

Late last night, Nia Jax sent many fans, including yours truly, into a frenzy with a tweet throwing shade at Alexa Bliss’s “I am enough” tattoo. Most WWE fans believe this is a “work”, designed to generate interest in their upcoming match at Extreme Rules. However, a recent report indicates that there may be more to the story.

Alexa Bliss and Nia Jax have been best friends in real life for months, but there’s been speculation that the two have had a falling out recently.

There’s basically no real way of knowing whether or not this is true, but Nia’s recent tweet about Alexa’s “I am enough” tattoo has led to plenty of confusion among fans.

For those of you who don’t know, “I am enough” is a slogan that many people have have fought depression, eating disorders (as in Alexa’s case), or feelings of self-doubt use as self-affirmation. Because if you are reading this, you ARE enough.

Bliss recently got this tattoo, and WWE profiled this on their site. Some fans took issue with the above tweet, including me. I assumed this tweet was used as a “work”, because Bliss and Jax used real-life bullying about Jax’s weight in order to fuel their rivalry earlier this year. Because WWE didn’t accurately portray this type of bullying and didn’t give people real closure, I am leery about them potentially using another “bullying” angle relating to Bliss’s situation.

Although I’d like to think that this is a work and that Nia wouldn’t tweet something like this off-the-cuff, WrestlingNews.Co’s Taylor Underwood reports that WWE management is upset with Jax for tweeting this. Underwood adds that Jax has “heat” and that it is “unlikely” WWE is using Bliss’s tattoo and battle with an eating disorder in a storyline.

It’s important to note that Bliss is a heel. While they could try to turn her face, she is likely ticketed for a big program with Ronda Rousey, perhaps at SummerSlam. Her main beef seems to be with Rousey, who was suspended for 30 days on the most recent episode of Raw, even if her upcoming match is against Jax. We’ve seen Jax flip between face and heel lately, but in a program with Bliss, she’d likely be a face. That’s an interesting layer to think about when deciding whether or not this is a “work”.

At a fundamental level, WWE wants more fans to be interested in Bliss vs. Jax at Extreme Rules, even though it is the third time these two will face off. WWE has used real-life issues in a tasteless manner before, and while they are slightly more careful nowadays, I emphasize the word “slightly” here. This could be a case of WWE trying to “work” the fans in the strongest way possible, using social media to strum up interest in this feud and asking people backstage to tell wrestling sites that this is not a work.

However, why would WWE want to poke fun at “I am stronger” and revive a bullying-type storyline that didn’t work? When Bliss made fun of Jax’s weight and the mental battles that she goes through in real life, it was uncomfortable. It should have never happened, to be quite honest with you.

Per this report from Underwood, Jax was not instructed to tweet this out and did this on her own accord. The tweet, of course, remains up and has not been deleted.

I hate to say it, but it sounds like we’ll be getting more Jax/Bliss drama, unless if we get some clarity on the next episode of Raw. For my own sanity, I still think this is a work, but, man, this is starting to make me a little nervous.
