WCW Matches versus Sting: 1992 through 1994
When looking back at the legacy of many baby face wrestlers, there’s one particular heel in each of their career which helped them “get over” as a character with the fans. Stone Cold Steve Austin had Shawn Michaels and Vince McMahon; Rey Mysterio had Eddie Guerrero, and Taz had Sabu. Looking back at Sting’s career, his series of matches against Vader from 1992 through 1994 helped set the tone that Sting would be the babyface that the WCW could latch itself to for the future.
Their matches at Starrcade 91, The Great American Bash in 92, Starrcade 92, SuperBrawl III, Slamboree 94 and Fall Brawl 94 outline a rivalry that built both Sting’s and Vader’s place in the industry. The two-year storytelling that occurred between these two was the type of storytelling that built excitement around the idea that Sting would find a way to overcome the big monster in Vader. Sting and Vader would exchange a few titles between them, but these matches were about much more than the belt.
Anyone who is a fan of either man should go back and watch their series of matches because each one is enjoyable as they attempt to top the previous bout.
