WWE Raw: Why Is Braun Strowman Chasing Kevin Owens?

Braun Strowman has been tormenting Kevin Owens on WWE Raw in recent weeks. But what does the Monster Among Men want from the Prizefighter?

Braun Strowman has made it a habit on WWE Raw to terrorize Kevin Owens. This started during the build towards Money in the Bank and even after winning the contract, Strowman does not seem intent on leaving the Prizefighter alone. The Monster Among Men is indeed a monster when it comes to size, speed and strength.

Yet, he is a monster who has always shown a fair bit of logic and reasoning in all his actions thus far. Until this week that is. I for one, just cannot seem to understand why Strowman would still go after Owens. From a creative standpoint, I can see that they have nothing else planned for him at the moment. However, they would still like to keep the spotlight on him. Hence, the impromptu feud with Kevin Owens.

But my issues in this program lies with the fact that Owens has not really done much to anger the Monster Among Men over the past couple of weeks. Yes, one can argue that he attempted on multiple occasions to remove Strowman from the equation and even recruited fellow competitors to do the same.

However, Owens made up for all that by trying to apologize to Strowman.  We all know how that went. Anyhow, this week on Raw, Strowman requested to be paired up with Owens against Finn Balor and Baron Corbin. As if the tag team partners who hate each other angle hasn’t already been played too many times by creative, this was one more such instance.

But why would Strowman do that? To cap it off, he did everything right in the match and worked alongside Owens. I’ll admit it was mighty fun watching the Monster order KO around and asking him to do some of his signature moments. In the end, Balor and Corbin imploded, signalling they might be in for a match at Extreme Rules.

But what about Owens and Strowman? After picking up the win, Owens had no second thoughts before running to the back stage area, attempting to escape. Strowman was quick to begin chasing the heel too as he sprinted to the back as well. What transpired next really pushed the boundaries of Strowman as a babyface monster for me.

Even for a despicable heel like Owens, having his car flipped upside down just for fun is a bit too much. I mean we’ve seen babyface superstars break apart a heel’s car in the past. Remember when Lesnar destroyed a Cadillac?

Or when Kofi Kingston destroyed Randy Orton’ car? But all that was done in the name of revenge. An angry babyface is different from a happy babyface who had just won a tag match. Moreover, the maniacal laughter Strowman had as Owens, clearly shaken, watched on spelled out ‘Monster Heel’ more than anything else to me.

Perhaps this was a one-off incident. The fans definitely loved to see Braun Strowman push Owens around like this. The reactions were loud and strong. However, the Monster Among Men does not need to do this. He is flirting with his babyface status this way. Above everything else lies the fact it is being done for a feud that has no eventual meaningful conclusion.
