Report: Hiromu Takahashi Might not Need Neck Surgery
After an absolutely horrendous botched spot in his match with Dragon Lee, Hiromu Takahashi was reported as possibly having broken neck.
The injury occurred during a spot that saw Dragon Lee doing a Phoenix Plex, or Steenalizer (as Kevin Owens used to use it on the independent scene).
The move was supposed to see Hiromu float over and land on his shoulders and back.
However, something went terribly wrong, and Hiromu was dropped right on his head. The GIF of the move is below, but as a warning, you might not want to watch this footage.

Miraculously, Hiromu was not only able to get up, but he continued the match. Not only did he continue, but he continued to wrestle at a high level. Hiromu, according to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, was able to do all his planned spots, including this Canadian Destroyer:

This was soon followed by Hiromu Takahashi hitting a Time Bomb, and getting the pinfall for the finish in the match.

Hiromu left the ring on his own strength, but apparently collapsed backstage after the match. While this is relatively normal when the wrestlers do backstage press promos after hard matches, this was different. Hiromu was not selling, and was clearly seriously hurt. Takahashi spent 3 days in the hospital in San Francisco, where he was recently released, and flew back to Japan.

Now, after days of speculation, The Wrestling Observer is reporting that Hiromu is not going to need surgery (via Fightful). At this time, no official statement has been made concerning the severity of the injury. However, if no surgery is required, this stands a very good news for Takahashi. It is an incredible relief to hear, as I am personally a big fan of his. We will keep you all updated as more news comes out concerning it.
