Final Thoughts

Show Rating: 4 stars out of 5

This was an absolutely excellent NJPW G1 Climax show. Every match delivered entertaining wrestling in a different way. One of the things that NJPW does really well is giving matches chances to shine. Every single match was different. The different styles highlighted in NJPW in these matches helped every match stand out in its own way. One of the best things that NJPW does is incorporate different styles so that each match is different.

One of the very interesting and subtle storyline points that was touched upon in the first 2 nights was that Okada lost his first G1 match, while Omega won his. This served two or three purposes that I can see. Okada is not the same man he was since he lost the title. He’s yet to have a singles victory since. Okada losing and Omega winning further solidifies that Kenny Omega is the man in NJPW right now. Omega is on the rise, while Okada is on the decline. We are watching the redemption of Kazuchika Okada. So, the purpose, to summarize: 1) It shows Okada is on the decline. 2) It shows Omega is on the rise. 3) It shows that Omega is the man right now.

You can be sure that Okada’s G1 journey is going to be one of the more interesting stories this year, especially when compared with Omega’s G1. Regardless of how it turns out, we can expect that NJPW is going to deliver a lot of twists and turns on the way. Meanwhile, Tama Tonga is lurking in the shadows, waiting for his chance to take Omega out. NJPW has so many directions to go, and you know NJPW will take us along the journey. In the promo after the show to the press, Kenny Omega said he was planning on winning the whole tournament. After he won, he said, “You all know who I’ll challenge at Wrestle Kingdom when I win.” Omega, of course, will want to face Kota Ibushi.
