WWE Have No Faith in Carmella

In what was easily the worst match on this show, Asuka took on Carmella once again for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. This time, James Ellsworth was suspended above the ring in a shark cage to “ensure” he wouldn’t get involved.

So, as it has with every time they’ve used this gimmick, Ellsworth got involved. He did not waste time either, as it must have been maybe a minute before Ellsworth started dropping weapons down to Carmella. He would then later pick the lock, but somehow ended up with his leg stuck in the cage, hanging upside down.

Asuka would take this as a chance for revenge, and beat up on the defenseless Ellsworth. This would lead to the finish where Carmella snuck up behind Asuka, pushing her head first into the cage, and getting the pin. In this whole match, Carmella and Asuka probably actually wrestled for less than a minute. Which brings me to my point in this takeaway: WWE do not trust Carmella to have a championship match on PPV without it being filled with smoke and mirrors. We saw what happened when they did that at Backlash with her against Charlotte. It didn’t go well.

I hate to rag on Carmella because as I’ve said before, I really do enjoy her act. She’s very charismatic and carries a presence with her that few are capable of doing. With that being said though, this isn’t the position Carmella should be in.
