Earlier today, I had the privelege of speaking with Flip Gordon about his career, his upcoming match with Nick Aldis for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship, Being the Elite, and All In!
Flip Gordon is one of the fastest rising stars in wrestling today, and his match with Nick Aldis at the upcoming Honor For All event is a big one. ROH Honor For All will be airing on HonorClub FREE for all HonorClub members on July 20th. The show starts at 5:30 PDT, 7:30 CDT, and 8:30 EST.
Flip’s Early Career
Josiah MacDonald: Were you a wrestling fan growing up?
Flip Gordon: I grew up a wrestling fan, and I fell in love with it at an early age. It was always wanted to do, even though life took me other directions first. The ultimate goal was to end up here, where I am. I watched it all the time, and my cousins used to wrestle. I played a lot of the video games, and it was always a part of my life. It wasn’t until I was 11 or 12 that I decided to become a wrestler. Ever since I could remember, it’s been a part of my life. John Cena & Eddie Guerrero were inspirations to me.
JMD: Two of the best. You started training under Brian Fury. Could you tell us a bit about your early career and training?
FG: I moved from Idaho to Massachusetts to train at the New England Pro Wrestling Academy. He was the best trainer I could have asked for. He also trained Donavan Dijak, Sasha Banks, Oney Lorcan, and the wrestlers that he has trained kind of speak for themselves.
JMD: You’re a member of the National Guard. Can you tell us a bit about how you balance that with pro wrestling, and how that has helped you become who you are today?
FG: I was a member, but I got out in May! It was really tough, but the army was really willing to work with me. Once my career started to take off, they knew that was my priority. They really did help make me the person I am today, teaching me to be more mature and responsible, that’s for sure.
