Flip Gordon in NJPW

Josiah MacDonald: You’ve recently competed in the Best of the Super Juniors in NJPW. What was that experience like?

Flip Gordon: It was a great experience. I had so many great matches, and I was able to learn at a very fast rate. I enjoyed my matches with Tiger Mask, Ospreay, Ishimori, and ACH, which was the first match I had in the tournament. All the matches were some of my favourites in my career, because I learned so much from working over there. One major thing I learned was to show more passion.

JMD: Yes, because that is very important for communicating with the audience.

FG: Absolutely!

JMD: You had some great matches with Hiromu Takahashi, and I was wondering if you could talk about your matches with him.

FG: He is an amazing performer. I wish him a speedy recovery, and I hope we can share the ring again. We had a lot of fun matches together. He’s definitely one of the best I’ve been in the ring with.

JMD: You are also a part of Being the Elite, including a rather amusing segment called “Marty and Flip take Japan.” How is it being a part of that show, and working with The Young Bucks and Cody, etc?

FG: It’s great! It’s helped me develop my character and helped me get out of my bubble. It’s also helped me in working a storyline, and it’s very beneficial to my career. It really helped by giving me so much freedom creatively. They give me direction, but there is so much freedom to come up with our own things. They have never tried to force me to do anything.
