4. Extreme Rules

While the previous entry on this list was consistently decent, Extreme Rules was extremely hit or miss. I consider it to be slightly better than Elimination Chamber because the highs more than made up for the lows.

The Good:

Rusev vs AJ was probably match of the night. It told a solid, easy to understand story, and included some great action and believable false finishes. The Rollins vs Ziggler iron man match was also really enjoyable. I know some fans thought it was overbooked with too many falls and an unnecessary sudden death angle, but I had a good time watching it. Plus, It was awesome to see a PPV go off the air with Ziggler standing tall.

On top of that, the Reigns vs Lashley match blew expectations out of the water, the Team Hell No situation was handled well, and the Nakamura squash was perfect.

The Meh:

The preshow featured two mildly entertaining matches in Cien Almas vs Sin Cara and New Day vs SAnitY. Then on the main show, Bálor vs Corbin, Strowman vs KO, and Bliss vs Nia were all decent enough.

The Bad:

I don’t even dislike Carmella! I think she’s a compelling character and is having a solid run as top heel on Smackdown, but COME ON. Asuka was able to go undefeated for 914 days and she loses like that?!?! It’s just terribly inconsistent and lazy.

Also, I don’t get the decision to put the titles on the B Team. It felt like nothing more than a swerve for the sake of having a swerve. I fear that Bray and Matt may fade into obscurity if they aren’t able to get the titles back, and that would be extremely disappointing.

In conclusion… Extreme Rules, despite a few missteps/dull moments, delivered mostly good in-ring action, and some solid booking decisions.
